The Foundation strives to identify and encourage creative new approaches for the economic development in Detroit, with emphasis on expanding employment opportunities for Detroiters.
In 2007, the Foundation has invested $7.5 million in the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan for the New Economy Initiative for Southeast Michigan (NEI). Ten funders joined this effort and pledged a total of $134 million to jump-start innovation-based economic growth in the region.
2015 Grant Highlights:
- $700,000 of a $2.5 million commitment to the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan for the New Economy Initiative 2.0.
- $150,000 to the Detroit Economic Growth Association to support business development and neighborhood small business programs.
- $200,000 to the Downtown Detroit Partnership for the Detroit Experience Factory and Detroit Welcome Center programming.
