Because crime is a serious threat to the vitality and quality of life of the community, the Foundation supports projects to improve public safety.
With the addition of the 15×15 Strategy to the Foundation’s agenda in 2008, the Foundation’s Safe Community mission has become increasingly focused upon efforts to improve safety and the perception of safety in Greater Downtown Detroit.
2010 Grant Highlights:
- $100,000 to Community Legal Resources to launch the Safe Neighborhood Initiative in Greater Downtown Detroit.
- $143,000 to University Cultural Center Association to pilot a Security Improvement Matching Program in Midtown.
- $137,000 to Wayne State University to enhance the surveillance activities of WSU Police.
