Children's Hospital

The Hudson and Webber families have played numerous major roles in the development of Harper and Children's Hospitals and The Detroit Medical Center. Because of this historical interest, and because these institutions are of critical importance to the medical delivery, medical education and health of the community, the Foundation continues to give high priority to the growth and development of the Medical Center.

Harper Hospital

In 1995, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute was created jointly by the Michigan Cancer Foundation, Wayne State University, and The Detroit Medical Center. Because of the Institute’s potential to significantly improve cancer research, education, patient care, and community outreach in southeastern Michigan, the Foundation made a ten-year $7.5 million commitment to help launch the Institute and to create a new state-of-the-art building for cancer research named the Hudson-Webber Cancer Research Center. This commitment was completed in 2005.

Karmanos Cancer Institute

The Foundation is continuing to provide grants to fund special projects at Harper and Children’s Hospitals.

Other Grant Highlight:

$200,000 for the Early On Collaborative at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, providing support to families with children ages 0-3 who have developmental delays or other special needs.
